Eligible voters, please vote EARLY
and spread the word to all eligible voters you know.
The deadline to request an absentee ballot by mail has passed (October 24). If you already have your absentee ballot, you can still take it to the early voting location at the Old Fire Station on First St. and drop it off (you fill it out first, put it in the secrecy envelope, be sure to sign the part on the outside of the 2nd envelope on the signature line.) When you drop off a finished ballot, you just go in and hand it to the poll workers. You are allowed to drop off your own ballot as well as anyone else's ballot. If anyone needs someone to drop off their ballot, please reach out. You can also mail it, but it MUST be postmarked 1 day before Election Day and received by noon 6 days after Election Day. Dropping it off instead of mailing gives you more time to track your ballot. They also have a 24 hour drop box.
Sometimes it is confusing to know which mailing is your ballot and which is an absentee ballot request form. The absentee ballot request only asks for YOUR information. The ballot has the names of candidates and you fill in the circles to vote. Be sure your ballot is a real ballot (if you didn't request one, you didn't get a real ballot).
Your ballot will look like this; you can also look at it ahead, to make it easier to fill it out when you go vote early. This is a Marshalltown-specific ballot---if you live elsewhere, you can view your own ballot (which may have some regional differences) by visiting your auditor's website.
You still have options for in-person early voting (highly recommended!) In Marshalltown, go to to the Old Fire Station, 107 S. 1st Ave. Monday through Friday, 8 am - 4:30 pm or Saturday, 10/31, 8 am to 5 pm. You will need to show your ID (driver's license, passport, or other government issued ID) OR have your voter ID card. If you do not have a driver's license and don't know where your voter ID card is, you can request one at the County Auditor's office (currently located on the 2nd floor of Great Western Bank on Main Street.) Reach the auditor by phone at 641-754-6323 Monday through Friday, 8 am to 4:30 pm
Then, you can track your ballot and it will tell you when it was received at the Iowa secretary of state's website. If you have checked and you don't see it listed in a couple of days, you can contact the auditor's office to check on it.
You can still register to vote AT when early voting or at your voting location
(which may have changed from other years, so be sure to check.)
If you aren't sure IF you are registered to vote, you can check here.
If you have additional questions about voting,
you can call the voter hotline: 888-SOS-VOTE (767-8683)
